Will you ever be ready?

When something happens to someone close to you... specially if that someone has left this life for the next... It always makes you think, am I ever going to be ready for that?  A friend of mine passed away a few hours ago.  I was driving home when I received the news.  He was very vibrant and loved just yesterday when I had last seen him.  Nothing seems amiss... and then... it happens.  I am at a loss for words, I do not want to believe the news, I pray that the news I received was wrong.  Although, after a while, I just pray that he is at peace and that he continue to watch over the people who care about him and love him and will miss him.

You will always be in our prayers, in our thoughts and in our hearts... we will miss you...

Movie Marathon

It is nice to be home alone on a Sunday with your loveys... I just spent the rest of my Sunday night with no maid... taking care of my two daughters, getting them ready for bed and then, watching the DVDs that we just bought. We had a great time laughing, singing along and dancing along to the fantastic movie RIO. :-)

Norte Adventure

First stop of the trip... Vigan, Ilocos Sur.  We visited Calle Crisologo, had "home-made" ice cream on a bench along the street... did the touristy thing of taking photos wherever we stop... including a sign for havaianas.

Next stop is Batac, I think, which is where Ferdinand Marcos is supposed to be preserved (mummified) but I  am not entirely convinced that it's still him lying there on that glass coffin.  He seems too tall and looks like a wax figure.  But the Ilocanos really love this family.

Next up is Paoay, Ilocos Sur, Malacanang of the North.  This is the mansion of the Marcoses in Ilocos, with a fantastic view.  If I become a billionaire, I am definitely getting me one of these, with all the modern fittings for a nice bathroom, kitchen and bedroom.  But the verandas and the guest receiving areas, I would definitely not mind having the same. :-)

Finally, after a 14 hour drive from Manila, we have reached Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.  We checked in at the resort where we are staying (Evangeline Beach Resort).  We stayed at their Villa Ana since we are quite a crowd and this villa is perfect for a group of up to 18 pax.  Each room is spacious (except for the attic rooms) and beautifully decorated with classic Spanish era furniture (cabinets, bed frames, bed sheets, dresser).  It's like home away from home since we were able to cook our own food.  This is perfect since I am travelling with my family and people who actually know how to cook.  However, if you prefer to let some other people do the cooking, you can ask their restaurant kitchen to cook the items you bought from the market (seafood is really cheap there) or you can save yourself the effort and just have your meals at their restaurant which has a great view of the beach.

We finally hit the beach.  The waves are pretty strong so we stayed really near the shore.  But, we did have a whole lot of fun riding the waves or just letting ourselves get hit by the strong waves.  It does leave a lot of sand in undesirable places and you do feel tired from all the waves pounding... But it is all definitely worth it.  Specially if you see your angels playing tag with the surf, when they are riding the waves, or just playing with their pails and shovels in the sand.  The sand is not powdery, unlike Bohol or Boracay, but the water is really great, not too cold and not too warm.  The sand is a little like Puca Beach on Boracay or the beaches in San Juan, Batangas.  You can't really build sand castles or write letters on the sand... but you won't really have time to do so since it is so much more fun staying in the water.

Since you are already in Ilocos Norte, might was well visit Bangui Windmills, but it's really hard to get good pictures if you don't really know how to use your camera.  The shadows of the huge windmills get in the way of great photos.  However, the view is incredible.

We also had a bit of a trek (like 10 mins) to reach Bantay Abot Cave (more of an arch actually) but the view is also spectacular.  However, getting here is not easy since you have to go down really steep stairs and balance yourself on slippery rocks and steep incline to get to the top.  Such a shame that we were too busy taking photos of the climb, that we totally forgot to take a photo of the view.

Rurouni Kenshin

Been watching this over the weekend. I love his sense of honor and justice. (^^)
